Yup Strategic Priorities

Hi all! We hope 2021 has been off to a good start thus far 🙂

Spurred by some great feedback, we want to update you on what’s going on at Yup HQ. Things have been quite busy over here.

A quick recap of the major changes we made this past year:

  • Shifted our focus to selling to schools instead of individual families
  • Changed our pedagogy to UPSCR
  • Updated compensation structure

In all these changes, we want to recognize that we have not been as responsive as we have been in the past. We also have not been great about keeping tutors in the loop. Why? Since we started selling to schools:

  • Kreg is acting as lead salesperson because he understands both UPSCR and the education world
  • Henry has moved to support our Leadership Team with Strategic Initiatives
  • Kelsea departed, and we have not yet hired someone to take her place
  • Sharon has been responsible for our Tutor training/onboarding, and also heavily supported the customer success team to create resources for students

We understand that by not being as responsive as usual, this may have caused you to feel undervalued and we apologize for that! Tutors continue to be the center of our Academics team. We appreciate you sticking with us through all the changes as we understand that these were not easy! We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team.

Knowing things are still busy, how do we address these gaps? Here are some of our next steps:

  • Share the Academics strategies behind Sharon’s priorities for the rest of the school year
  • Set up office hours where Sharon will be in Tutor Slack
    • This is to ensure that tutors can ask for context and to ensure that Sharon is responding to all key messages
    • Days and times are as follows, starting on Monday, March 1st
      • Mondays 10:00 – 10:30 PM PT
      • Thursdays 10:00 – 10:30 AM PT

Share more data with tutors to keep you in the loop – e.g., how do trainings actually result in higher UPSCR scores or student ratings?
